“A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people.” Mahatma Gandhi
Anguilla’s Summer Festival begins today, August 2nd and will end on August 12th, 2018. The theme is ‘Strength and Resilience like you’ve never seen, Anguilla’s Summer Festival 2018’. The Department of Youth and Culture is pleased to be a strong supporter and advocate of our cultural festivities.
The Department of Youth and Culture invites and encourages all persons to participate in and show appreciation for the festivities which are a celebration of our history and culture. Please see flier attached below.
Senior Programme Officer (Arts and Culture) Ms. Avon Carty in a feature on Culture in the 50th Anniversary magazine shared, “Culture is incredibly dynamic. It is a reflection of a community, society and people which embraces their history and heritage; past and present. It is a blend of who they were and who they are. And as Anguillian society evolves the awareness and appreciation of Anguilla’s youth for Anguillian culture will determine how much of Anguilla’s heritage and cherished traditions will make up the Anguillian culture of tomorrow.”
Anguilla Summer Festival has evolved over the last couple of years and now includes a mix of exciting and traditional shows and events and new and vibrant events which appeal to a younger audience. Indeed there is something for everyone. Johan Huizinga said, “If we are to preserve culture we must continue to create it.” DYC says kudos to all who continue to contribute in big and small ways to the preservation and evolution of Anguilla’s culture.
