Summer Days at Shoal Bay Anguilla

 

We arrived at Shoal Bay Beach this evening just about 6:00pm. It is summer so we have daylight until just about 7pm. The first words out of my mouth to Nash were ‘wow, this is beautiful’ as I took in the expanse of the ocean, the sun just above the horizon and the miles of white sand. Yes, I am Anguillian born and raised but I still fall in love each time with the beauty that surrounds us here in Anguilla :).

There were less than ten other persons on the beach. Three persons were exercising and a few visitors were lounging on some beach chairs a few hundred yards away. I stopped for a minute and thought about the last few months which were super busy with long work days, meetings, classes and other engagements and commitments which seldom left time to do much if anything at all in the evenings. I inhaled and exhaled and smiled. At that moment, I experienced the true sense of tranquility wrapped in blue and gave God thanks for the fact that I live on this beautiful island called Anguilla.

I walked along the shore line of Shoal Bay Beach with the refreshing sea water cascading over my feet. I pushed my feet in the sand and watched the sunset and the birds swoop into the ocean to get their dinner. I stood next to the water and stared at the horizon marveling at how amazing God is to allow this vast amount of water to only come so far. I took selfies with Nash until someone volunteered to take a photo of the ‘newlyweds :).’

It is amazing the effect an hour of tranquility on a beautiful beach can have on your attitude, mood and general outlook on life. There is no wonder then that Anguilla continues to be ranked among the best in the region and world for categories such as best place for a destination wedding, best beach bars, top hotels and of course beautiful beaches.

Shoal Bay Beach, voted at one point as ‘one of the most beautiful beaches in the world’ is an 8 minute or less drive from my house. Crocus Bay which I love for its rustic, charming beauty is just about 5 minutes away. As I left the beach I heard a visitor say ‘I feel so relaxed now.’ I took note that I should aim to spend more time on the beach during the work week during the lovely ‘summer months.’ Yes I know it is ‘summer’ year round in Anguilla :).
