The Small Things…..

It is the small things, the seemingly inconsequential happenings in our life which are sometimes the most meaningful. We share the highlights of our life but the mundane every day things may actually be the most important part of our experience. This is where we find the small things which make us pause and smile. After the passage of Hurricane Gonzalo, these flowers have sprung up all over the island.  They make me smile.

The Small Things – A Tasty Meal

Yesterday was a chill Saturday. After chores, I decided to make rotis for lunch. I used locally made roti skins so I just needed to make the filling. I found a great recipe for a vegetable roti which used chickpeas, carrots, potato and cauliflower and I got to work. While I do purchase and eat roti on occasion, I am not a big fan of curry. This stemmed in part from having way too much curry and spicy foods during my trip to India in 2010. I was all curried out.

However, today the smell of my veggie filling was enticing. It turned out great. Hubby gave it thumbs up.  I gave one to my mom and she said my little cousins who are 7 and under whom she shared it with also loved it.  Kids don’t lie so I knew it was tasty (Hubby doesn’t lie either).

The Small Things – Meeting Someone for the First Time

Later in the afternoon, I headed to Sandy Ground to meet Brenda Garrigan a long time visitor to Anguilla and a fan of My Anguilla Experience and any and all businesses and individuals who are making a positive mark in Anguilla. I found her at Roy’s and we enjoyed a drink as we engaged in conversation. It was lovely meeting and speaking to her.

The Small Things – A beautiful Sunset in Anguilla

We were distracted during our chat by the fabulous view and sunset and went on the beach to take some shots.

Brenda also showed me a rock she found earlier on the beach which was just perfectly formed.

As I gazed out on the empty beach and at the sunset, I told Brenda that even though I live in Anguilla and can potentially witness a fabulous sunset or sunrise every day, each time I truly take the time to notice I am awestruck. This sunset was spectacular. I am glad so many persons in Anguilla noticed it as persons posted pictures of the sunset from various vantage points on the island on social media. It is the small things which show us how blessed we are.

I enjoyed trying a new recipe for the first time, meeting a Facebook friend in person for the first time and witnessing a perfect sunset for what I hope will not be the last time.

Where ever you are, whatever you are doing….remember it is the small things which make life meaningful. Continue to enjoy your weekend!

We would love it if you would keep in touch with My Anguilla Experience on Facebook and Instagram! xxx
