My brother dropped by my house and says ‘we are going to Windward Point.’ Windward Point? Yes to Windward Point.

So we hopped into his jeep, my brother at the wheel along with his girlfriend and my mother. It was a rainy afternoon and we started the trip towards Island Harbour which is on the eastern end of Anguilla.  The good thing about being in Anguilla is that 90 percent of the time it doesn’t rain long enough for it to be too much of an inconvenience. Between the laughing and the talking and the drops of water running down the windows we reached Island Harbour in no time. Shortly after, we were screwing down the windows because the rain stopped.

We passed through Island Harbour and arrived at the Junks Hole road overlooking Savannah Bay. In the distance we could see our destination highlighted by the little iron light house on the hill. From here on the road changed from the smooth pavement of the main road to a hard packed and peaceful dirt road with a few houses at the beginning that soon disappeared.  After that our only company were the electrical poles that take you as far as Captain Bay where you can see Exclusivity Villa. Here on out the poles also disappeared and we continued on the winding dirt road that exists only on a few maps. It is not well maintained so a car will have problems getting there but on the plus side you will get to experience the natural sea grape walls along the road.

We arrived at our destination and hopped out of the vehicle. Windward point is an amicable place with little to trouble you other than the salt spray that comes from the Atlantic Ocean, so do wash your vehicle as soon as you get a chance once you leave Windward Point.  It is also a perfect place to see the white sands and greenery of Scrub Island as well. (Check on this link for my previous adventure on Scrub Island). We then hiked to the light house. It was well worth it because we got a great view.

It was an unforgettable experience for all of us and a great adventure for my mom who was visiting Anguilla. Another bonus was that we ate quite a bit of edible pink popes from the many cactus plants on the way.
