Nash and I celebrated out four year wedding anniversary a few days ago. We usually take the day off from work to celebrate our day together. After taking Xavi to day care, our first stop was Nico’s restaurant in The Valley for a light breakfast in anticipation of the day ahead.  We knew that we wanted to spend our day at the beach! For our day of fun in the sun we chose Anguilla Watersports and headed down to the Cove. The Cove was one of my favourite beaches when I was a child and holds such fond memories. I remember fun class and family picnics here. The Cove is now home to the “Aqua Park” which is a large inflatable water park consisting of interconnected trampolines, slides, and climbing structures.

Ready for a day of fun in the sun

When we arrived, we donned our sunscreen because it was hot! As I looked out on the water, I immediately thought that it was the perfect beach day. The water was calm and a beautiful shade of blue. A number of persons were already lounging on the beach. Carina was the Anguilla Watersports agent on duty and she was a delight to deal with.

In a jiffy she had us set to go with our life vests. Nash is a good sport and got a matching hot pink vest for our couple’s adventure. Nash swam over to the Aqua Park. I chose to be kayaked over by another member of the very charming staff.

The Aqua Park

Once we docked, I clambered up unto the waterpark and waited for my hubby who was still a few feet away to join me. It took me a minute or two to get my bearing and Nash laughed at my irrational fear of falling in the water – after all it is a waterpark! I decided to jump into the water to prove that falling in would be fun. It worked!

I climbed back on and we started running around the park and tackling some of the “challenges.” At one obstacle, I kept sliding back down the wall when I tried to get over using the ropes provided. The next time I come here, I will get over, I vowed. I don’t like heights at all but after pushing my fear of being too high away, the big slide became one of my favorite rides. After an hour or two, Nash and I took a break under the shade of one of the towers and just enjoyed the view of our surroundings from where we were.  Then we enjoyed the aqua park some more. Nash dropped his shades and one of the lifeguards dived in and brought them back up for us. I call that good service. We swam back to the shore after a few hours to try some other activities.

Paddleboarding

Next up was paddleboarding. I tried paddleboarding before with the owner of Anguilla Watersports– Judd Burdon at Crocus Bay. You can read about it under the Island Explorer feature in Design Anguilla.  The second time will be much easier, I thought. I climbed on to my board and within a few seconds I fell into the water.  No problem! With the help of one of the friendly guys from Anguilla Water sports, I spent the next hour alternating between successfully standing and paddling and tumbling into the water. I am sure the persons on the beach witnessed an amusing show put on by yours truly.

I decided to call it a day because I realised that my body was already exhausted from the activities at Aqua Park and also because the waves at the Cove started to get quite large making my footing on the paddleboard even less sturdy.  The staff was so helpful and patient during all our activities.  We definitely recommend that you visit Anguilla Watersports in The Cove.

Time to Eat

By the time we completed our water sports adventure, Nash and I were famished! The plan was to go to Smokey’s which I love but when we looked over it was so busy. We decided instead to order some take out from Andy’s Restaurant in The Valley.

Our most popular vantage point

On our way back to The Valley, we drove through and stopped on backstreet because really why would anyone choose to bypass this view. We sat down and enjoyed the view together for a bit. Nash grabbed some really sweet sea grapes from a tree nearby because of course we were still hungry.

There were some really friendly local dogs that got up close and personal with us while we were there too!

Lunch was ready when we got to the restaurant. We picked up Xavi immediately after collecting lunch.  He was sleeping peacefully when we arrived. Xavi loves the outdoors and God willing before we know it he will be doing all kinds of watersports with us too.

Our day at the Park was awesome and breakfast and lunch from two local establishments were great too.
